Joanie was looking for a web banner that could be used at her Etsy shop as well as elsewhere online. The design needed to reflect her crafting style which was a mixture of scrapbooking, card making and expanding into home décor.

I was given total freedom to start on this design and we eventually settled on the design seen below.

The Process

Being given total freedom I based the design of the first banner off a few of the items Joanie had listed at her Etsy shop.

Initial Design - Round 1

Initial Design - Round 1

We both agreed that it looked a little too ‘kitcheny’ and didn’t cover the wide range of the work she actually produces.

Round 2

Round 2

Round 2 was a little bit better – she liked the color scheme of the first round but the craftiness of the second round.

Round 3

Round 3

Round 3 seemed to be the winner but I mentioned that we could take this in a whole new direction and asked her if she wanted to see something different. What client would pass on that?

Round 4

Round 4

Round 4 was the new winner.  One minor change of making the bee on the left into a butterfly and we ended up with the finally banner.
